Pippin: A Must See of Vintage Jewelry

22 Nov

I must confess that I have a strong attraction to all things shiny. As I’m sure most women do, we love things that are shiny that we can wear on our fingers, around our neck, our wrists or in our ears. With my need for something shiny, I stopped by my ultimate favorite vintage jewelry store in New York. Pippin.

Pippin is situated in the trendy neighborhood of  Chelsea, which is known for great shopping and a plethora of amazing restaurants. Interestingly enough, the store is named after the owner’s dog, Pippin, an adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Taking a step into the store is like taking a step back in time to a jewelry flea market 50 years ago. The jewelry is displayed on various antique rich wood buffet credenzas and shelves. The pieces are displayed as if enhancing the unique and intricately special qualities of each piece. And it makes you feel special when you fall in love with one. Almost like finding treasure.

Each piece is labeled showing what era it is from along with what material it is made out of. Fine pieces, those that have precious metals like gold and silver or gemstones, are held in a glass case at the cash register. They are exquisite and worth every penny they are priced for.

The owner has an incredible eye for what he puts in the store and finding something is not the hard part. Choosing between all of the options displayed in front of you is.

One of my best friend’s recently got married this summer. A few months before the wedding, she was still in need of her “something old”. So I swing by Pippin and discover the best find! It was a heart-shaped pin from the 1950’s with the outline of the heart surrounded by pearls and cubic zirconia. It was the perfect mix of vintage and new. She pinned it to the ribbon that wrapped around her bouquet. A piece of history was part of her wedding that day and it made my love for all vintage fashion that much more exciting.

Here is my recent find from Pippin. It’s a gold link bracelet from the 1950’s (apparently I love this era) with teal green glass beads dangling from it. It’s casual, elegant, and old but on trend.

Pippin is located at 112 W 17th St (between 6th and 7th ave)  New York, NY 10011-5453
(212) 505-5159
