Trend Alert: Stylish Snow Boots

7 Feb

Wearing cute shoes in the winter is tough when you’re constantly wading through ankle deep slush from every snowstorm. But there are options that are fashionable and practical.

Here are some of my favorites-

The North Face- Bridgeton Wedge Lace Booties

Sorel- Toronto Lace Wedge

LL Bean- Classic Duck Boots

And these are some quick tips on what to look for when shopping for a snow boot-

1) Waterproof

It needs to say they are waterproof in order for them to actually keep out water. Ugg boots are warm but are not meant for wet weather and will be destroyed instantly.

2) Something that will resist the salt

Look for an exterior that looks like it can take a beating. Salt ruins regular leather quickly and easily.

3) Insulation

Look for some sort of insulation or a lining that will keep you warm

Happy Snow days!

Goodbye Daisy Dukes! Hello Fall!

30 Oct

I love Fall! It is my absolute favorite season with the chill in the air, changing of the leaves and drinking a hot beverage without sweating. Another thing that’s great is the changing of fashion. Time to pull out the sweaters, scarves and boots. Thank goodness we get to put away the cutoff shorts.

There are cool ways to do this trend and others that make it trashy. Yes this is a fashion faux pas post in disguise!

With a breezy top and the length of the shorts that passes the fingertip test, makes this a casual classic look.

This denim underwear trend has to stop! And most pants have pockets, so we don’t need them displayed for proof either.

If you are holding onto summer with all your might, this is how you can still pull off your cutoff shorts in cooler temperature. Trade in tank tops for sweaters, sandals for boots and add tights for a look that screams “I love Summer, but it’s cold but still rocking the shorts!”

Any summer trends you are still holding onto as we go into fall?

Faux Pas Friday: Frankenstein Boots

22 Aug

I get the whole chunky shoe concept. It’s cool, casual and funky. But unless you are a child of punk and going out on St. Mark’s Place and shop at Trash and Vaudeville in the East Village, (seriously look it up it’s an insanely cool store: http://www.trashandvaudeville.com), there are other options for you.

Don’t do this!

Makes you look like you have thick ankles, which no one likes.

Do this!

Slims out the leg with the edgy look desired. Same concept a little refined.

Save $200: The Look For Less!

16 Aug

Do you ever walk into a store and fall in love with something? You think to yourself, “I love it! I would look great in this and I must have it!” Then you casually glance at the price tag and you realize it’s beyond your “I’m in love and will pay anything for this” budget. So maybe you wouldn’t pay anything for it. It’s ok because we all have to draw the line somewhere.

Never fear! Trends and styles are so common these days, there is always a less expensive doppleganger of what you fell in love with out there. So you hunt for the look for less!

I just found my own today! I was in need, and lets be serious, I really wanted them, of a durable pair of booties with a wooden stacked heel that could essentially take a solid beating. Living in New York City ruins shoes in 2.5 seconds and it doesn’t matter how much you paid for them. The more durable the leather and more substantial the sole the better chance I have of actually wearing these past one season.

I spotted these lovelies from Cole Haan and desperately wanted them. Perfect stacked heel for comfort, nubuck leather rough enough to take some wear and tear, and classic so they will be in style for a while. At $278, I was thinking of how I could save all of my pennies for however long I needed to sport these awesome boots that I considered an investment.

But then I walked by Vince Camuto on my way home from work, because really everyone needs to wind down with an impromptu shopping trip, and found this gem on SALE! I paid only $55 for these while they are still being sold online for full price at $129.

What I love about these more than the Cole Haan version is the dark brown gore panels on the side for style and convenience, the cap toe that gives it that detail of sophistication, and a wider stacked wooden heel for even more comfort. The quality is just as great with the same nubuck leather for durability.

No matter how you spin it. I scored!

Always keep your eyes open and never pay more than you are comfortable because you can always find the same look for less!
