Goodbye Daisy Dukes! Hello Fall!

30 Oct

I love Fall! It is my absolute favorite season with the chill in the air, changing of the leaves and drinking a hot beverage without sweating. Another thing that’s great is the changing of fashion. Time to pull out the sweaters, scarves and boots. Thank goodness we get to put away the cutoff shorts.

There are cool ways to do this trend and others that make it trashy. Yes this is a fashion faux pas post in disguise!

DO:

With a breezy top and the length of the shorts that passes the fingertip test, makes this a casual classic look.

DON’T:

This denim underwear trend has to stop! And most pants have pockets, so we don’t need them displayed for proof either.

If you are holding onto summer with all your might, this is how you can still pull off your cutoff shorts in cooler temperature. Trade in tank tops for sweaters, sandals for boots and add tights for a look that screams “I love Summer, but it’s cold but still rocking the shorts!”

Any summer trends you are still holding onto as we go into fall?

Trend Alert: Burgundy

1 Oct

This color is officially the new black and is everywhere! I can’t walk into a store and not see the burgundy, oxblood, Bordeaux, wine variations spanning from accessories to clothing to outerwear.

Take this from the runway to your closet!

HOW TO DO IT

This is considered a neutral color so spice it up with prints (Leopard is always in style) and color. Trade out black skirts, sweater, blazers and handbags for this luxurious color. It works on all skin tones and keeps away from the dreaded head to toe black this winter.

Dash for the last pair of Sandals!

24 Sep

Buying off season is possibly the best wardrobe strategy you could ever use.

I always buy clothes and shoes at the end of the season to get the best deals since everything is on deep discount, then put them away until next year where I already have a few new pieces to start that season’s wardrobe.

I found these Via Spiga chocolate brown leather strappy wedges on sale at Marshall’s for $18! Via Spiga is a contemporary brand that sells shoes starting at $175-$195 and going up from there. I got these brand new sandals for next to nothing.

And even though fall just arrived, we still have a few fleeting summer moments where I can wear them a few times before they get switched out for boots.

Do you shop off season? Find any good deals?

Summer’s Trendiest Flat Found at Beacon’s Closet

27 Aug

I love these flats! I’m sure you’ve seen them in various colors and materials at all different price points and have been wanting these since they broke the market. But who wants to spend a lot of money for a shoe that could be out of style next year. I got lucky and found these for $15 at Beacon’s Closet barely used. They’re selling at DSW now for $40.

A very in style girl made sure to catch my attention to pay me a compliment on these and ask me where I got them. Resale store! I was very flattered. The takeaway, you can stay in style and trendy without blowing your budget.

Fashion Tag!

19 Aug

I saw this on another blog and knew I had to do this too. Just a little more about me and my style-

1. How would you describe your style?

I am very much  a casual dresser but with luxe tendencies. I am often found in jeans with a nice top and a fun accessories.

2. What are your wardrobe staples?

I have 3 big staples I always make sure I have in my wardrobe.

1. Black Blazer

It’s a classic piece that goes with everything for any occasion. I often use mine to throw over a dress at work or as a light jacket on a chilly night out. It’s a simple and easy way to snazz up an outfit. And you can find them anywhere at any price point!

2. Solid Colored Tshirts

I own an array of printed skirts and jeans that I often pair with solid colored t-shirts when I’m not in the mood to get dressed up.  I always make sure I have black, grey and at least 1 fun color on hand.

3. Quality Leather Handbag

I’m not referring to a Louis Vuitton or Chloe, but a nicer leather bag that isn’t from H & M or Steve Madden, goes a long way and pulls an outfit together even on your jeans and t-shirt days.

3. Most expensive item in your closet?

I bought a pair of Givenchy Sandals that had never been worn at a consignment  store for $90. I just about died when I found them and am still too afraid to wear them in fear I’ll ruin them.

4. Most wanted item?

I mean, I need this.

5. Favorite designer?

Favorite designers are definitely Diane Von Furstenberg and Oscar De La Renta. They both understand the female figure and use prints, colors and embellishments that accentuate the wearer without overpowering them.

6. How much do you spend on clothes?

I shop way too much and overall spend too much. But on individual items, I don’t spend much at all. I frequent the resale stores to get the designer brands I love at a price that helps me sleep at night.

7. What are your favorite places to shop?

I love a good resale store. They have all the best brands at great prices and you’ll never have that fear of seeing someone on the street wearing the same thing as you. You get to be creative and make your own outfits versus buying an outfit that is on the same rack at a department store. It makes me unique.

8. Favorite fragrance?

Marc Jacobs Lola. Feminine but not too floral.

9. What’s your favorite way to do your hair?

I have naturally curly hair so all I have to do is throw mousse in when I get out of the shower and i’m out the door. My natural curls are all me and definitely my favorite.

10. What is your go-to outfit when you have no idea what to wear?

Jeans and a blousy type top. The combo is comfortable yet pulled together.

11. One fashion trend you wish would come back or stay?

Anyone remember this shoe trend? It’s vintage inspired and was in style for a hot second. I loved it and wish it had more life.SteveMaddenImperialGreyPatent_Front_300

12. Show us your most prized possession in your wardrobe.

My Chanel. Found it at a junky thrift store in my college town of Nacogdoches, Texas for $50! The guy was born and raised in that town and had no idea what he had. Win for me! I’ll never get rid of this.

Pre Winter Steal: Cole Haan Boots 45% Off

30 Jul

I get made fun of all the time for buying boots in July, which I usually do every year. But with athletic calves and the desire to buy boots that aren’t tried on a million times by random strangers, I shop the moment the first round of boots hit the shelves. In July.

What this usually means is discounted boots that didn’t sell last year reappear early or older styles that missed its shipment to department stores last year are finally showing up in the discount stores, again early. This always means a good deal for you and your pick of the litter.

I got these beautiful Cole Haan Suede Boots with a wood stacked heel and Nike Air comfort in the sole. They’re classic and will go perfectly with my dresses and skinny jeans. Cole Haan boots sell anywhere from $350-$550 and DSW was selling these for $210. With my $10 coupon, I got these for $200. To get boots this cheap at Cole Haan, you’d have to wait until after Thanksgiving to have the opportunity to find them on sale and then cross your fingers they’re not in terrible shape and in your size.

Can’t wait to wear these in the fall! Have you begun your pre winter shopping?

Men’s Thrifting: Casual Friday Look for $9

8 Jul

While visiting some of my family in New Jersey, my boyfriend and I ended up going to a $20 fill a bag sale at a consignment store called Greene Street. They have locations in New Jersey, Philadelphia and a new location in New York city. It was the stuff of my thrifting dreams!

It was literally dozens of bins of the most tragic pieces of clothing known to man to dig through to unearth a few good gems. And we did find them! In the bin sale, he found a Banana Republic navy blue striped polo barely worn amongst other great things like a Missoni silk tie and brand new with tags bike jersey (which I have been informed are expensive…physical activity is not a hobby of mine so I had no idea how awesome that was) .

We filled the bag enough that each piece was a mere $1. What?! I know right?!

In the full price section of the store, he scored again grabbing a pair of olive green relaxed fit Rag and Bone chinosfor $8. Perfect for summer, he got this look  for a total of $9.
