Goodbye Daisy Dukes! Hello Fall!

30 Oct

I love Fall! It is my absolute favorite season with the chill in the air, changing of the leaves and drinking a hot beverage without sweating. Another thing that’s great is the changing of fashion. Time to pull out the sweaters, scarves and boots. Thank goodness we get to put away the cutoff shorts.

There are cool ways to do this trend and others that make it trashy. Yes this is a fashion faux pas post in disguise!

With a breezy top and the length of the shorts that passes the fingertip test, makes this a casual classic look.

This denim underwear trend has to stop! And most pants have pockets, so we don’t need them displayed for proof either.

If you are holding onto summer with all your might, this is how you can still pull off your cutoff shorts in cooler temperature. Trade in tank tops for sweaters, sandals for boots and add tights for a look that screams “I love Summer, but it’s cold but still rocking the shorts!”

Any summer trends you are still holding onto as we go into fall?

Fashion Tag!

19 Aug

I saw this on another blog and knew I had to do this too. Just a little more about me and my style-

1. How would you describe your style?

I am very much  a casual dresser but with luxe tendencies. I am often found in jeans with a nice top and a fun accessories.

2. What are your wardrobe staples?

I have 3 big staples I always make sure I have in my wardrobe.

1. Black Blazer

It’s a classic piece that goes with everything for any occasion. I often use mine to throw over a dress at work or as a light jacket on a chilly night out. It’s a simple and easy way to snazz up an outfit. And you can find them anywhere at any price point!

2. Solid Colored Tshirts

I own an array of printed skirts and jeans that I often pair with solid colored t-shirts when I’m not in the mood to get dressed up.  I always make sure I have black, grey and at least 1 fun color on hand.

3. Quality Leather Handbag

I’m not referring to a Louis Vuitton or Chloe, but a nicer leather bag that isn’t from H & M or Steve Madden, goes a long way and pulls an outfit together even on your jeans and t-shirt days.

3. Most expensive item in your closet?

I bought a pair of Givenchy Sandals that had never been worn at a consignment  store for $90. I just about died when I found them and am still too afraid to wear them in fear I’ll ruin them.

4. Most wanted item?

I mean, I need this.

5. Favorite designer?

Favorite designers are definitely Diane Von Furstenberg and Oscar De La Renta. They both understand the female figure and use prints, colors and embellishments that accentuate the wearer without overpowering them.

6. How much do you spend on clothes?

I shop way too much and overall spend too much. But on individual items, I don’t spend much at all. I frequent the resale stores to get the designer brands I love at a price that helps me sleep at night.

7. What are your favorite places to shop?

I love a good resale store. They have all the best brands at great prices and you’ll never have that fear of seeing someone on the street wearing the same thing as you. You get to be creative and make your own outfits versus buying an outfit that is on the same rack at a department store. It makes me unique.

8. Favorite fragrance?

Marc Jacobs Lola. Feminine but not too floral.

9. What’s your favorite way to do your hair?

I have naturally curly hair so all I have to do is throw mousse in when I get out of the shower and i’m out the door. My natural curls are all me and definitely my favorite.

10. What is your go-to outfit when you have no idea what to wear?

Jeans and a blousy type top. The combo is comfortable yet pulled together.

11. One fashion trend you wish would come back or stay?

Anyone remember this shoe trend? It’s vintage inspired and was in style for a hot second. I loved it and wish it had more life.SteveMaddenImperialGreyPatent_Front_300

12. Show us your most prized possession in your wardrobe.

My Chanel. Found it at a junky thrift store in my college town of Nacogdoches, Texas for $50! The guy was born and raised in that town and had no idea what he had. Win for me! I’ll never get rid of this.

Faux Pas Friday: High Waisted Denim

18 Jul

I know, I know. This is really trendy right now! But I just can’t get around how unflattering it is for everyone. Even if you’re a size 2!

Don’t do this!

Let’s be honest, it accentuates everything you probably aren’t a fan of on your body and makes your backside look long and awkward shaped.

Do this!

A straight leg jean fits everyone and gives you a nice line that goes straight from your hips to your feet. It’s classic and makes your bum look fantastic!

Faux Pas Friday: Denim on Denim

18 Apr

The Canadian Tuxedo! Great look for the 80s and 90s but so outdated for 2014.

Don’t do this!

How To Dress Up Your Casual Friday Jeans

16 Jan

Jeans, denim, dungarees, call them what you will, but they are part of everyone’s wardrobe with the average person owning 7 pairs! And I’m sure you count down until Friday when you can wear them to work again. But this is no reason to throw on a t-shirt and sneakers! Take this opportunity to outshine your coworkers by being comfortable but dressed professionally and fashion forward.

Here’s a few tips:

1) Wear jeans without too much fading or whiskers, no holes or tears and that fit well; this includes a length that aren’t too short or too long where you’re stepping on them.

* A skinny jean ends at the ankle or just above the ankle

* A boot cut, straight, and flare  jean ends just above the ground. It’s long enough to cover the back of the shoe but not touch the ground

2) Instead of sneakers, pair with a comfortable ballet flat, sandal, or wedge for a dressier look.

3) As an alternative to t-shirts, a well designed cotton blouse looks more pulled together but keeps you feeling casual. For a step above this, pair with a cardigan or blazer.

4) Add a great pair of earrings or necklace to tie everything together.

Here’s some great examples:

You will feel comfortable, casual and look a step above the rest.

Blazers are a girl’s best friend

22 Dec

I love Blazers! How could you not? They make every outfit look classy and put together. And let’s not forget that well cut styles give you a nice hourglass shape making you look slimmer with curves in all of the right places. All of this in one easy piece of clothing.

Having a bad hair day? Feeling like jeans and tee? Possibly hungover and feeling sloppy? Throw on a blazer! You’ll be surprised what a difference it will make.

There are so many different types of blazers, from denim, linen and velvet to a suit blazer, that you’ll find one that’s right for you.

Look at some of these examples below:
