Goodbye Daisy Dukes! Hello Fall!

30 Oct

I love Fall! It is my absolute favorite season with the chill in the air, changing of the leaves and drinking a hot beverage without sweating. Another thing that’s great is the changing of fashion. Time to pull out the sweaters, scarves and boots. Thank goodness we get to put away the cutoff shorts.

There are cool ways to do this trend and others that make it trashy. Yes this is a fashion faux pas post in disguise!

With a breezy top and the length of the shorts that passes the fingertip test, makes this a casual classic look.

This denim underwear trend has to stop! And most pants have pockets, so we don’t need them displayed for proof either.

If you are holding onto summer with all your might, this is how you can still pull off your cutoff shorts in cooler temperature. Trade in tank tops for sweaters, sandals for boots and add tights for a look that screams “I love Summer, but it’s cold but still rocking the shorts!”

Any summer trends you are still holding onto as we go into fall?

Shopping in a FLASH! Flash sites the new bargain shopping

21 Apr

The way people shop is evolving as fast as technology. The amount of ways you can shop is expanding so quickly that it’s just incredible how creative companies are getting. Think about it, years ago you were most likely to go to the mall and go from store to store. Now there’s second hand stores, online shopping of all sorts and groupons and those alike.

One of the best new ways to shop online is through flash websites. A flash site is a website that has “events” where they will sell a specific collection or brand for a 2-3 days at a discount price. Once this event ends, the goods are no longer available. They run several events at once and begin a new set everyday.

Examples of these, that you may have heard of or shopped off of already, are Rue La La, Haute Look, Gilt, Beyond the Rack and the list just goes on and on…..

The purpose of these sights is to get the customer (you) the best deal possible and to help clear out inventory from the company they purchase it from. If you look hard enough, you will find some great deals.

Now, are you really geting a deal? A great way to check if you are rather than it being overpriced so the sale looks more attractive, is to comparison shop using google search. I know what you’re thinking..Google?? But google has a search tool called SHOPPING. It’s underneath the MORE  top tab.

I found these two pairs of sandals on Rue La La, my favorite flash site, that I fell in love with. They are perfect for the summer! The colors will go with everything and the price seemed great.

I searched in the SHOPPING tab of Google and found them selling for almost $70 full price at Nordstrom. I actually got a steal!!! I saved $60 in a flash!

GIVENCHY for under $100

I live on an amazing block in Park Slope, Brooklyn. There’s everything you could ask for in a neighborhood that is every bit as convenient as living in Manhattan but with better gems to be found on every block. Fashion is no exception. I would like to bring to the spotlight my favorite consignment store in the BK located on 7th Avenue between 15th and 16th St., M.A.E.

M.A.E. is a small privately owned consignment store that sells high-end designer shoes, accessories and clothing. With even small Manhattan apartments being larger than this store, it is a welcoming environment where everything is at your fingertips. Beautifully crafted handbags and designer shoes and sunglasses are proudly displayed while clothing lines the wall. It is arranged as if you were stepping into your walk in closet and merely picking your favorite pieces to wear that day.

The owner is extremely personable and loves to help out all of her customers find the best items in her small shop. She only accepts better quality designer goods that leave you with nothing but great options for your wardrobe. Labels include but are not limited to Mahnolo Blahnik, Chloe, BCBG, Jimmy Choo and so on. Even with her selective choices in which to sell, you can still find little surprises.

The newest addition to my closet is a BRAND NEW pair of Givenchy brown leather chunky platform sandals.  That’s right, they’re BRAND NEW! For a brand new pair of designer shoes, even on the resale level, you would expect drop at least 3 digits of cash. Well, my wallet only emptied $95 that day. That is at least a $600 savings if having purchased them at Saks Fifth Avenue. These are the perfect sandal for summer through early fall that will go with anything and everything. It will be a staple in my wardrobe that I expect to wear until I run them into the ground. For a pair of sandals that can be worn so often, the measly $95 for Givenchy was worth the price.

I apologize for the poor photography. Notice it isn’t what I blog about 🙂
